FAQ for teachers

All your questions answered!
What is Flylingua and who is it for?

Flylingua is a platform to connect students with language teachers.

How much does it cost to join?

Joining is free!

How does it work?

You need Skype installed (free download, https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/), a PC/laptop and the comfort of your home or wherever you are. You create your profile and log in with your email address and password. Once the teacher confirms the lesson’s day and time, you are all set!

How can I be listed as a teacher?

On the main page click either on the top bar on “Become a teacher” or on the page “I want to teach” selecting the language you want to teach. You will be on the Teacher application page: fill in the required fields. You may apply as a professional teacher or a conversational teacher. In both cases, teachers must send a biography, a picture and a valid ID (passport or residency permit). The address may not contain any “c/o”. Bank accounts details must match your name and address.

If you register as a professional teacher, all credentials (diplomas, at least 1 relevant reference: from languages schools etc.) must be provided for a check. All applications are looked thoroughly to ensure quality of services so expect up to 72 hours for a reply. In case your application was not successful, all data will be destroyed.

What is the difference between professional and a conversational teacher?

A professional teacher is an experienced language teacher and well suited for students of all levels, specifically for complete beginners.

A conversational teacher is a native without any professional teaching credentials but who enjoys practicing conversations with learners of a certain level. You may want to check  defined levels under the Common_European_Framework_of_Reference_for_Languages.

What do I need to use Flylingua?

You need Skype installed (free download, https://www.skype.com/en/get-skype/), a PC/Laptop and the comfort of your home or wherever you are. Once you have received a student request, you have 24 hours to confirm the lesson’s day and time or suggest a new time.

Can I set my own hours?

Absolutely! It is your responsibility to maintain your calendar up-to-date.

Can I set my own rate per lesson?

Yes!

Do I have to offer discounts?

Although you must not, we recommend offering a discounted price for a first lesson so student can “have a taste”. You may click yes or no in your profile and set your own discount such as 50% for example. You may also indicate whether you want to offer 5- hour package at a 5% discount or 10-hour package at 10% discount.

How long does a lesson last?

A lesson lasts a full hour or 60 minutes.

How do I receive the payment?

Payment is made upon lesson’s completion: you must confirm the lesson has taken place. Once a lesson has been given you will be sent an email to confirm. If there is no claim from the student within 24 hours from the lesson’s end, the lesson will be deemed to have been up to expectation and payment less Flylingua’s fee of 10.5% will be released. Payments for packaged lessons (5 and 10 hours) will be made upon completion of all lessons.

What is the Flylingua’s fee?

The 10.5% fee this is to cover for the user service as well as payment process, maintenance of the platform and the user support. Any changes of the fee (decrease/increase) will be communicated in a timely fashion.
